Historic Hills Scenic ByWay Spring Shop About

The Blakesburg Community Museum and the historic 1892 Abernathy House will be open to the public and offering home-made baked goods for sale.

The Blakesburg Community museum is curated by the Blakesburg Historical Preservation Society and is located in the town’s original US Post Office. The museum has a focus on preserving the history of the community. The museum’s principal displays are of artifacts, items and records relevant to the community’s descendants, identity and cultural heritage.

Purchased in August 2024, the Blakesburg Historical Preservation Society has been hard at work in the formal front parlor, restoring the room to Victorian Era décor before furnishing it with antique period furniture. Come see our progress and talk with us about our plans for the future.

The "Historic Hills Scenic Byway Spring Shop About" is an annual event held along the Historic Hills Scenic Byway in southeastern Iowa, where visitors can explore unique shops, historic sites, museums, and eateries across the region during a designated weekend in the spring, often featuring special sales, demonstrations, and local treats; essentially a "shop local" celebration along the scenic route.
